SURGERY IN PATIENTS WITH PSORIASIS AND ARTHRITIS

J. R. LAMBERT and V. WRIGHT

Rheumatism Research Unit, University Department of Medicine, General Infirmary at Leeds, and Royal Bath Hospital Harrogate

Correspondence to: Request for reprints to Professor V. Wright

A review of 41 orthopaedic operative procedures and 54 other surgical procedures in respectively 21 and 38 patients with psoriasis and arthritis is reported. A low prevalence of wound sepsis (1 of 41 and 2 of 54 procedures) and other complications (1 of 41 and 1 of 54 procedures) suggests that elective surgery including joint prosthesis should not be withheld from patients with psoriatic arthritis.
