Diflunisal was more effective than aspirin in the treatment of osteoarthritis in a double-blind trial. It was better tolerated than aspirin and caused fewer withdrawals from treatment. Diflunisal also had the advantage of a twice daily dosage schedule. Diflunisal caused less increase in cell and lysosomal enzyme excretion by the kidney.
