A Basic Protein from Pig Mononuclear Leucocytes that Causes Cartilage to Resorb its Proteoglycan
| Abstract |
|---|
Pig mononuclear leucocytes stimulated with Con A produce a basic protein that causes cartilage proteoglycan resorption in vitro, in addition to the more acidic IL-1 (pl 4 9). This second protein accounts for perhaps 40% of all the cartilage rcsorbing material released by the leucocytes. It has been characterized as a protein of about 15(XK) molecular weight on gel filtration and has pi 8.5 when focused in acrylamide gel. It has so far proved inactive in the mouse thymocytc assay. The reasons for this arc discussed.
