The Biochemistry of Interleukin-1

P.A. Murphy

   Abstract

Interleukin-1 is the name for a family of molecules which have multiple biological effects. They differ in both molecular weight and isoclectnc point: the chemical basis for these differences is not known. At the moment, no protein sequence is known for any form of IL-1, and no IL-1 gene has been cloned The last two statements may already be untrue, and certainly will become untrue in the near future Knowledge of protein sequences for the various forms of IL-1 will answer definitively most of the questions raised in this review

KEY WORDS: Interleukin-1, Biochemistry
