SIR, The therapeutic approach to giant cell arteritis (GCA) remains based on the long-term use of high doses of corticosteroids. No real alternative exists in cases in which the disease is not controlled or recurs despite appropriate therapy with steroids, or in which unacceptable side-effects arise.
