Re: NSAIDS and simple analgesics
The Royal London Hospital, Bancroft Road, London E1 4DG, UK
SIR, Freemantle stated there is good evidence that, in the management of pain, NSAIDs have some advantages over simple analgesics such as paracetamol (acetaminophen), without giving a reference to justify his statement [1]. A recent article examined three systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials evaluating analgesic and anti-inflammatory treatment in osteoarthritis of the hip and found no clear evidence for the superiority of NSAIDs over simple analgesics [2]. Comparative studies of newer NSAIDs and simple analgesics are required [3].
